What is M25 Concrete Ratio? Calculation for 1 Cubic Meter Concrete

0
Concrete is a versatile building material composed of cement, water, aggregates (such as sand and gravel), and often additives or admixtures. It is known for its strength, durability, and ability to be molded into various shapes and forms, making it a popular choice for construction projects ranging from buildings and bridges to roads and dams. M25 concrete is a specific grade of concrete characterized by its compressive strength, which is measured in megapascals (MPa). The "M" in M25 stands for mix, and the number denotes the specified compressive strength of the concrete mix after 28 days of curing. In the case of M25 concrete, the mix is designed to achieve a compressive strength of 25 MPa.

What is M25 Concrete Ratio? Calculation for 1 Cubic Meter Concrete

M25 concrete ratio is 1:1:2 (Cement, Sand and Coarse-Aggregate). The minimum compressive strength of M25 concrete at 28 days curing is 25 N/mm². M25 concrete is commonly used in a variety of construction applications where moderate to high strength is required, such as in structural components like beams, columns, and slabs, as well as in foundations, pavements, and retaining walls.
In this post we are talking about volumetric mix ratio in which one part of cement, one part of sand (fine aggregate) and two part of coarse aggregates (1:1:2)  with appropriate amount of water, are mixed properly.
If you want to do mix design of M25 grade concrete then you need to follow the relevant code books where you have to determine target strength, water cement ratio, aggregate proportions etc to get the final ratio of mix.

M25 Concrete Ratio- Calculation

What is M25 Concrete Ratio for 1 Cubic Metre?

M25 grade concrete is a special type of concrete, used for residential and commercial buildings and so many other projects. In M25 volumetric mix,  one part of cement, one part of sand (fine aggregate) and two part of coarse aggregates i.e. 1:1:2 ratio of ingredients are mixed with appropriate amount of water properly.

M25 Concrete Ratio Calculation for One Cubic Meter Concrete

To calculate the quantity of materials in 1 cubic meter M25 concrete, we have some following standard data.

Standard Data Required in M25 Concrete Calculation

We are taking following standard data to calculate the quantity of materials in 1m³ of M25 grade wet concrete:
  • Volume of Wet Concrete = 1m³
  • Ratio of M25 Concrete = 1:1:2
  • Sum of Mix Ratio of M25 = 1+1+2 = 4
  • Shrinkage Factor = 1.54 (54% extra of total dry volume)
  • Unit Weight of Cement = 1440 kg/m³
  • Unit Weight of Sand = 1680 kg/m³
  • Unit Weight of Coarse Aggregate = 1525 kg/m³

Volume of Dry Materials for 1m³ Wet Concrete

Volume of Dry Concrete
= Volume of Wet Concrete × Shrinkage Factor
= 1 × 1.54 = 1.54 m³

Quantity of Cement in 1m³ of M25 Concrete

= Volume of Dry Concrete × (Proportion of Cement/Sum of Mix Ratio) × Unit Weight of Cement
= 1.54 × (1/4) × 1440
= 554.4 kg

Quantity of Sand in 1m³ of M25 Concrete

= Volume of Dry Concrete × (Proportion of Sand/Sum of Mix Ratio) × Unit Weight of Sand
= 1.54 × (1/4) × 1680
= 646.8 kg

Quantity of Coarse Aggregate in 1m³ of M25 Concrete

= Volume of Dry Concrete × (Proportion of Coarse Aggregate/Sum of Mix Ratio) × Unit Weight of Coarse Aggregate
= 1.54 × (2/4) × 1525
= 1174.3 kg

Materials Required in 1m³ of M25 Concrete in kg

  • Cement = 554.4 kg
  • Fine Aggregate (River Sand) = 686.8 kg
  • Coarse Aggregate = 1174.3 kg

Quantity of  Materials in 1 M25 Grade Concrete in m³, cft and kg

Quantity of materials in 1 cubic meter of M25 grade concrete is given below as per above calculation:

Quantity of Dry Materials of M25 Grade Concrete in  for 1m³ Wet Concrete

As per above calculation, the ingredients of M25 grade concrete for one cubic meter wet concrete in m³ is given below.
  • Cement = 0.385 m³
  • Sand = 0.385 m³
  • Coarse Aggregate = 0.77 m³

Quantity of Dry Materials of M25 Grade Concrete in cft for 1m³ Wet Concrete

As per above calculation, the ingredients of M25 grade concrete for one cubic meter concrete in cft is given below.
  • Cement = 13.6 cft
  • Sand = 13.6 cft
  • Coarse Aggregate = 27.2 cft

Quantity of Dry Materials of M25 Grade Concrete in kg for 1m³ Wet Concrete

As per above calculation, the ingredients of M25 grade concrete for one cubic meter concrete in kg is given below.
  • Cement = 554.4 kg
  • Fine Aggregate (River Sand) = 686.8 kg
  • Coarse Aggregate = 1174.3 kg

Water Content in M25 Grade Concrete

As per IS:10262, Table-7, maximum water content for 20 mm aggregate in mix for 25 to 50 mm slump range is 186 kg/m³.

Note: This is a volumetric calculation and we have assumed the standard unit weight of cement, sand and coarse aggregate. If the value of unit weight of any ingredients changes, the whole calculation will change.

👉FAQs

What is M 25 Grade of Concrete?

M25 concrete is a type of concrete mix that has a compressive strength of 25 megapascals (MPa) after 28 days of curing. It is a standard grade of concrete used for a variety of construction projects, including residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

M25 Concrete Mix Design Ratio?

M25 concrete is a nominal concrete with cement: sand : coarse aggregate ratio of 1:1:2. But if you are going to customize the concrete as per your requirements then you need to do concrete mix design. The mix design ratio would depend upon the type of material you use in the mix.

M25 Concrete Ratio for 1 Cubic Meter

M25 concrete mix ratio for 1 cubic meter is 1:1:2. This is a nominal ratio which is based on volume of ingredients like one part of cement, one part of sand and two part of coarse aggregate is mixed with required amount of water. But you can also do design mix as per standard which ratio would be based on weight.
